Kevin Varty

I grew up on the shores of Jervis Bay fishing for Kingfish and Tailor with my dad and uncle.

In 2012 I started fishing in the Hobie Kayak Bream Series and in 2014 I finally got 2 wins and qualified for the Australian team to complete in the 4th Hobie Fishing World Championships which were held on Vinkeveen Plassen just outside of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

I struggled but held my own sitting in mid field over the first two days of competition fishing for Zander, Pike and Perch. But on the final day of the world championship it all came together for me pulling aboard a big Pike close on 1m and I jumped up through the field to take out third place for Australia.

My proudest moment in fishing and one I’ll never forget.
